RightNote is a personal information manager of medium complexity. It supports syntax highlighting, document tagging, encryption, compression and the list goes on. The text editor is very good and allows for simple and advanced formatting.
The program’s interface can be intimidating at first because it contains so many elements. However, the menus are well organized and the tool icons are intuitive so it doesn’t take long to learn how to use this utility.
Articles are neatly grouped in pages and subsequently in tree-lists. This allows you to organize them very efficiently. Furthermore, you can assign an icon to each document, thus making important notes easier to see. The icon library is not very large but you can extend it with your own icons. These can also be grouped in tree-lists.
Some features that are lacking from this program are the abilities to set alarms, reminders or use calendars. These would have added a lot of value to this utility.
The application features a spreadsheet editor that is not very advanced but it supports simple automated calculations that can be assigned to a cell (e.g. sum and average). The disadvantage is that these spreadsheets cannot be exported to the XLS format.
Overall, this is a good product. In my opinion, its strongest point is the ability to organize information and that is obviously a huge advantage for a personal information manager.
